Sam Carrick is scheduled to play his 400th NHL regular-season game when the Buffalo Sabres host Ottawa on Wednesday, according to Buffalo Hockey Beat. His NHL record stands at 399 appearances entering the game.

Carrick told the outlet that his lengthy stay in the minor leagues had once left him wondering whether he would earn a lasting NHL role. He eventually played 64 games for Anaheim in 2021-22 after making only 47 NHL appearances over his earlier seasons.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff credited Carrick’s persistence and ability to contribute in a supporting role. Carrick joined Buffalo from the New York Rangers before the 2026 trade deadline.

Carrick also discussed the lingering effects of the arm injury he suffered in a March 31 fight with Anders Lee. Ruff told Buffalo Hockey Beat that Carrick’s recent four-game absence was unrelated to that injury. The Sabres’ earlier account of the March injury said Carrick missed the remainder of the regular season and made one brief playoff appearance.

Carrick said he is feeling better as he continues his recovery.
