What's newEdmonton activated emergency goaltender Brett Epp to back up Matt Tomkins against Anaheim.

The Edmonton Oilers named Matt Tomkins their starter against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday at Rogers Place and activated emergency goaltender Brett Epp as his backup. Tristan Jarry missed the morning skate because of an illness and was unavailable for the game.

Epp signed with the Oilers this summer as their emergency backup. Devon Levi, who skated Thursday as he worked his way back from injury, had been projected to dress before the Oilers announced Epp’s activation.

Tomkins stopped 27 of 28 shots in Edmonton’s 4-1 win over the New York Rangers on Nov. 1, his first start of the season.
