Oettinger makes 13 saves as Stars shut out Celebrini-less Sharks
Dallas earns its first win of the season, 5-0 at home, while San Jose plays without its captain after a late lower-body scratch.
Jake Oettinger made 13 saves and the Dallas Stars picked up their first win of the season, beating the San Jose Sharks 5-0 at American Airlines Center on Monday.
San Jose was without captain Macklin Celebrini, a late scratch with a lower-body injury. NHL.com reported that Celebrini left warmups.
Jamie Benn and Jason Robertson each had a goal and an assist. Joel Kiviranta, Mikko Rantanen and Miro Heiskanen also scored for the Stars (1-2-0 through three games), and Roope Hintz added two assists. Robertson and Rantanen both scored for the first time this season.
Heiskanen opened the scoring at 18:51 of the first period. Yaroslav Askarov thought he had control of Benn's initial shot, but Hintz knocked the rebound off the end boards to Heiskanen, who banked a backhand in off Sharks defenceman Dmitry Orlov and the goaltender's right pad.
Kiviranta made it 2-0 at 3:17 of the second, banking a puck in off Askarov's pad from below the goal line. Oskar Bäck's shot from the low slot had deflected off Jacob Trouba, and Kiviranta sent it back toward the crease.
Benn made it 3-0 at 6:19, jamming a shot in near the left post after Robertson fed him a touch pass between his legs from below the goal line. Robertson scored his own at 16:30, burying a wrist shot blocker side from the slot after gloving down a clearing attempt from Sam Dickinson at the right point.
Rantanen closed it out at 15:22 of the third with a wrist shot from the left circle.
Askarov made 21 saves for San Jose (2-1-0 through three games).
