Zach Hyman left the Edmonton Oilers’ game against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday with an upper-body injury and did not return, the club said.

Hyman’s head hit the glass on a check near the Detroit blue line in the second period, and teammates helped him off the ice, according to the Oilers’ live game report. Sportsnet identified Andreas Englund as the Detroit player who delivered the check. Edmonton has not provided further detail on his condition.

The Oilers played the rest of the night with 11 forwards and lost 4-3 in a shootout at Rogers Place, their second straight defeat. Hyman had scored once this season.

Edmonton closes its five-game homestand against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
