Hurricanes weigh goalie choice as Capitals return to Raleigh
Carolina brings a five-game winning streak into Tuesday’s rematch, with Brandon Bussi and Pyotr Kochetkov both options in goal.
The Carolina Hurricanes have a choice to make in goal as they host the Washington Capitals at Lenovo Center on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6:45 p.m. ET. Carolina has alternated starters over its last six games, and the club’s preview does not confirm who will face Washington.
Brandon Bussi would be next if that rotation continues. He won in Chicago on Saturday and has had an extra day of rest, but struggled in the teams’ first meeting. Pyotr Kochetkov is 3-0-0 after stopping 18 shots in Sunday’s 4-1 win in Philadelphia. Carolina will have four days before its next game, in Winnipeg on Saturday.
The Hurricanes enter at 5-1-1 following five consecutive victories. Washington is 3-2-0 after Sunday’s 5-3 loss to Seattle. The Capitals won the first meeting 5-2 in Raleigh on Oct. 2, scoring three times in the opening period.
Sebastian Aho has six goals and five assists during a six-game point streak, while Mark Jankowski has scored in four straight games. Washington’s Tom Wilson leads the club with five points through five games, and Alex Tuch has three goals, including two in the earlier visit to Carolina.
