Jake Evans has contributed two goals and three assists during Nick Suzuki’s five-game absence with a hand injury, according to Sportsnet. Montreal has won all five games, with Evans taking on more responsibility than his usual fourth-line role.

After Saturday’s 5-4 win over Pittsburgh, Chris Kreider praised Evans’ decision-making. Owen Beck also pointed to Evans and Phillip Danault as examples he wants to follow, highlighting their defensive awareness and ability to recognize attacking opportunities.

Danault marked his 800th NHL game with an assist Saturday. Kreider had a goal and an assist, while Josh Anderson scored twice and blocked an Erik Karlsson shot with 50 seconds remaining.

Coach Martin St. Louis said the veterans were helping bring the younger players along: “They’re leading by example, for sure.”
