Mike Matheson will miss two weeks with a lower-body injury, the Montreal Canadiens announced Saturday. The Montreal Canadiens defenceman was already out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars.

Montreal had said Matheson would be evaluated after the team returned home. He returned to action on Oct. 23 following four missed games. Sportsnet reported that a lower-body injury caused that earlier absence, but said a connection to the current problem was unclear.

Matheson has one goal and three assists in eight games this season. He is averaging 23:45 of ice time per game.

The Canadiens also said Saturday that goaltender Samuel Montembeault is now day to day. The club issued both medical updates after its optional morning skate at the Bell Centre.
