Oilers recall Samanski after placing Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve

Edmonton recalls Josh Samanski from Bakersfield on an emergency basis, while Matt Savoie and Alec Regula move to long-term injured reserve.

What's newEdmonton recalled Josh Samanski on an emergency basis and placed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve.

Josh Samanski is back with the Edmonton Oilers after the club recalled him from the Bakersfield Condors on an emergency basis on Thursday, Oct. 1. The move reverses his Sept. 28 assignment to Edmonton’s AHL affiliate.

Edmonton also placed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve and moved forward Matt Savoie and defenceman Alec Regula to long-term injured reserve. The club announced all four moves ahead of Thursday’s road game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Isaac Howard made Edmonton’s season-opening roster, which the NHL released on Sept. 29. He finished last season with 50 points (24 goals, 26 assists) in 47 AHL games with Bakersfield and five points (two goals, three assists) in 29 games with Edmonton.

Samanski recorded 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 45 AHL games and four points (two goals, two assists) in 24 NHL regular-season games in 2025-26. He added a goal and an assist in five playoff appearances for Edmonton.
