Välimäki expected to make Hurricanes debut in Vancouver

Juuso Välimäki skated beside Shayne Gostisbehere on Tuesday as Carolina prepared to face the Canucks.

Juuso Välimäki appears set to make his Carolina Hurricanes debut Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks, according to the club’s morning-skate report.

The 28-year-old defenceman practised alongside Shayne Gostisbehere. Carolina acquired Välimäki from Utah earlier in 2026, and he helped the Chicago Wolves reach last season’s Calder Cup Final.

"We’ve liked his game. That’s why he’s here," coach Rod Brind’Amour said after the skate. He said returning after a long spell out of the lineup would be difficult against a fast opponent.

Välimäki’s expected appearance gives Carolina a different look on defence. Canes Country also reported that he appeared likely to replace Mike Reilly. The game begins at 10 p.m. ET.
