Ehlers brings scoring surge into Hurricanes’ visit to Edmonton
The Carolina forward has five points in four games ahead of Thursday’s meeting with the Oilers.
Nikolaj Ehlers has contributed three goals and two assists over Carolina’s past four games as the Hurricanes prepare to visit the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, Oct. 22. The game at Rogers Place is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.
After going without a goal in his first eight games, Ehlers scored the winner in Saturday’s 3-2 victory at Winnipeg. He followed that with two goals and an assist in Tuesday’s 6-3 win at Vancouver, bringing his season total to eight points in 11 games.
Speaking after Wednesday’s practice, Ehlers said Carolina still has room to improve its execution despite its 8-2-1 start. He pointed to getting the puck out of the defensive zone and into the attacking zone without giving up turnovers or odd-man rushes.
Coach Rod Brind’Amour praised Ehlers’s speed, skill and hockey intelligence, citing his decisive play against Winnipeg. Carolina leads the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference heading into a matchup with an Edmonton team that has started 7-1-1.
