Senators expect Zub and Sanderson back soon; Matinpalo out against Blues

Travis Green says Zub and Sanderson could return within days, while Ottawa turns to Jorian Donovan on defence Tuesday.

Ottawa coach Travis Green expects Artem Zub and Jake Sanderson to rejoin the lineup within the next few days, but both defencemen will miss the Senators’ Oct. 13 home game against St. Louis.

“They’re close, expecting both in the next couple of days,” Green said, according to NHL.com’s projected lineups. Zub has not played this season while recovering from a knee injury. Sanderson has been sidelined since Ottawa’s Oct. 3 opener.

Nikolas Matinpalo will also sit out Tuesday with an upper-body injury sustained against New Jersey on Monday. Jorian Donovan will take his place. Sportsnet reported that Green left open the possibility of Matinpalo returning Thursday against the New York Islanders.

Samuel Ersson will start in goal in place of Linus Ullmark and make his first home start of the season, Sportsnet reported.

Ottawa enters the game at 5-1-0 after winning three straight. Tuesday’s game at Canadian Tire Centre begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.
