The Buffalo Sabres visit the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Bell Centre without captain Rasmus Dahlin. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
The Sabres said Dahlin was day to day with an upper-body injury after leaving Monday’s game in the second period. He did not travel to Montreal. Matt Grzelcyk has been placed on injured reserve, and the Sabres recalled Dennis Gilbert from Rochester. Gilbert could enter the lineup.
Buffalo had not named its starting goaltender in its morning preview. Both Colten Ellis and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen played in Monday’s 5-3 victory over Florida, with Luukkonen stopping 13 shots after replacing Ellis. Noah Ostlund scored the deciding goal on a third-period power play.
Coach Lindy Ruff praised the team’s performance after that win. Tuesday’s game is Buffalo’s first meeting with Montreal since their seven-game second-round playoff series. The clubs are also scheduled to meet Saturday in Montreal.
The Canadiens last played Saturday, when they beat Detroit in a shootout. Montreal will be missing defenceman Mike Matheson and Ivan Demidov, who is expected to be out for a few weeks with a lower-body injury, according to the Sabres’ preview.
Montreal has scored once in 17 power-play opportunities through five games. Buffalo’s updated preview lists Jacob Fowler as Montreal’s starting goaltender.
MSG carries the game in the Sabres’ broadcast market, with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
