The Montreal Canadiens expect captain Nick Suzuki to be sidelined for two to four weeks with an upper-body injury. The team announced the timetable Thursday, Oct. 22, according to Sportsnet and NHL.com.

Suzuki has appeared in 546 consecutive regular-season games since his NHL debut in 2019-20. The injury will bring that run to an end and force him to miss a regular-season game for the first time.

His most recent appearance came Tuesday in Montreal's 4-3 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks. Suzuki contributed a goal and an assist in that game.

At Thursday's practice, Oliver Kapanen took Suzuki's place between Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovský. Kapanen and Slafkovský played together last season, and the club's practice report said they would be reunited as Montreal adjusts to its captain's absence.

The Canadiens next play Friday against the Blackhawks in Chicago. Their four-game trip then takes them to Winnipeg for Sunday's Heritage Classic, St. Louis on Tuesday and Dallas on Thursday.
