Dylan Larkin will stop receiving pay from the Detroit Red Wings while the club seeks a trade, interim general manager Shawn Horcoff announced Thursday. Detroit suspended the centre after he told the team he would no longer play for it.

Horcoff said Detroit would keep looking for a deal. Larkin must approve any move, and Horcoff said the return must serve the club’s long-term interests.

The announcement followed coach Todd McLellan’s confirmation that Larkin would miss Thursday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Larkin requested a trade during the off-season and lost the captaincy before this season began.
