What's newJake McCabe took part in Thursday's morning skate and is expected to play against the Rangers.

Jake McCabe is expected to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the New York Rangers on Thursday, Oct. 22, Sportsnet reported. He took a full part in the team's morning skate two days after a high stick forced him out of a game in Columbus.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson caught McCabe in the face during the first period Tuesday, Oct. 20. Toronto later announced that McCabe would sit out the remainder of that game. Sportsnet reported after Toronto's win that coach Jim Hiller described the decision as precautionary.

The NHL's play-by-play records a four-minute high-sticking penalty against Johnson at 13:05 of the opening period, with McCabe drawing the call. RotoWire also reported that McCabe would not return Tuesday.

McCabe recorded five goals and 20 assists across 80 regular-season games in 2025-26.
