Gabriel Landeskog is scheduled to play his 800th regular-season NHL game when the Colorado Avalanche host the St. Louis Blues at Ball Arena on Saturday, Oct. 3. Puck drop is 7 p.m. MDT (8 p.m. CT).
St. Louis coach Jim Montgomery is rearranging all three defence pairs for the second half of a back-to-back. The Blues' projected lineup pairs Philip Broberg with Colton Parayko, Cam Fowler with Adam Jiricek, and Theo Lindstein with Brandon Carlo.
Zach Dean and Dillon Dube are expected to make their season debuts on a line with Pius Suter. Dean last appeared in the NHL in 2023-24, playing nine games, while Dube is in line for his first NHL appearance since 2024, the Blues said.
Alexey Toropchenko will be absent after sustaining an upper-body injury in the second period of Friday's game in Dallas. Montgomery described his status as "more than day-to-day" and said more information would follow an MRI.
The Blues' other projected forward lines are Dylan Holloway, Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snuggerud; Pavel Buchnevich, Mason McTavish and Connor McMichael; and Jake Neighbours, Dalibor Dvorsky and Jonatan Berggren. The lineup remains projected.
Colorado began its season with an 8-4 home win over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, setting a franchise record for goals in a season opener. Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen scored twice each; Brock Nelson, Parker Kelly, Nicolas Roy and Landeskog also scored. The Avalanche converted four of five power plays and stopped all four Kings power plays.
St. Louis opened Friday with a 4-0 win in Dallas. McTavish and Dvorsky scored before Snuggerud and Suter added empty-net goals. Joel Hofer stopped all 25 shots.
Saturday is the first of four meetings between Colorado and St. Louis this season. Their next two games are scheduled for Dec. 8 in St. Louis and Dec. 29 in Denver.
