Kraken Score Four in Second Period, Beat Red Wings 6-3
Frederick Gaudreau scored twice as Seattle erased a 2-1 deficit and opened its five-game road trip with a win in Detroit.
Seattle spent the first half of the game chasing Detroit and the second half burying it. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice in a four-goal second period, and the Kraken beat the Red Wings 6-3 at Little Caesars Arena on Friday.
Ben Meyers had a goal and two assists, and Vince Dunn and Mackie Samoskevich also scored for the Kraken (3-2-0), who won the opener of a five-game road trip. Brandon Montour and Ryan Winterton each had two assists. Philipp Grubauer made 37 saves.
Viktor Arvidsson put Detroit ahead 1-0 with a power-play goal at 9:19 of the first period, his third in as many games. Lucas Raymond's shot from the right face-off dot got through Grubauer's pads and Arvidsson tapped it in. Berkly Catton tied it at 14:52 on a Seattle rush, beating John Gibson with a backhand after a pass from Kaapo Kakko.
William Wallinder restored the lead for Detroit early in the second with his first NHL goal, a point shot through traffic. Seattle answered with three goals in 3:05. Gaudreau tied it by knocking in a Winterton pass from the front of the net. Samoskevich put the Kraken ahead by cashing in a Wallinder turnover on a pass from Jared McCann. Gaudreau then made it 4-2 with a wrist shot from the left face-off dot, again set up by Winterton.
Meyers scored 12 seconds after leaving the penalty box to make it 5-2. Gibson was pulled in the second period, and Daniil Tarasov stopped eight of nine shots in relief in his Detroit debut. Dunn made it 6-2 with a two-man advantage at 11:53 of the third.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygård also scored his first NHL goal for the Red Wings, who finished their season-opening four-game homestand with one win and three regulation losses.
