Kraken Name Dunn and Montour Alternate Captains
Seattle added its two veteran defensemen to the leadership group alongside captain Jordan Eberle and returning alternates Matty Beniers and Adam Larsson.
The Seattle Kraken named defensemen Vince Dunn and Brandon Montour alternate captains Wednesday, filling two openings in their leadership group before training camp.
Dunn and Montour join captain Jordan Eberle and returning alternates Matty Beniers and Adam Larsson. The group was set before Thursday morning's first official workout of training camp.
The openings followed Jaden Schwartz's move to the Colorado Avalanche this summer and Seattle's decision not to replace Yanni Gourde after trading him to the Tampa Bay Lightning in March 2025.
Dunn, 29, is entering his sixth season in Seattle after arriving from St. Louis in the 2021 Expansion Draft. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019 and posted career highs of 14 goals and 64 points during the Kraken's 2022-23 playoff season. Dunn and Larsson have since anchored Seattle's top defense pairing.
Montour, 32, begins his third season with the Kraken. He signed a seven-year contract with Seattle after winning consecutive Stanley Cups with the Florida Panthers. Montour has twice recorded four points in a game, a franchise record for a defenseman, and scored the fastest overtime goal in NHL history four seconds into the extra period.
Eberle, 36, enters his third season as captain after leading Seattle with 26 goals and 54 points last season. Beniers, 24, begins his fifth Kraken season and third as an alternate, while Larsson, 33, has been part of the leadership group since the franchise's first game.
