Adam Klapka’s fight with Curtis Douglas helped create Calgary’s opening goal in Friday’s 6-2 win over Seattle at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Both forwards received fighting majors at 1:46 of the first period. Douglas was also assessed a two-minute roughing penalty, and Morgan Frost scored on the ensuing power play at 2:32.

Sportsnet reported that Klapka knocked Douglas down before the Seattle forward threw late punches. Klapka told the outlet that Douglas apologized in the penalty box.

Calgary had faced criticism for not answering Colton Dach’s crease collisions in Edmonton. Klapka told Sportsnet that Jake Middleton asked Dach to fight three times and that he asked as well, but Dach declined.

Calgary coach Ryan Huska credited Klapka with bringing energy early in the game and helping his teammates get going.
