Kraken forward Jacob Melanson out indefinitely with vascular pseudoaneurysm
The Seattle winger's upper-body injury from the season opener has been diagnosed as an anterior mediastinum hematoma with vascular pseudoaneurysm.
Seattle Kraken forward Jacob Melanson will be out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a vascular pseudoaneurysm, the team announced on Oct. 10.
Melanson was hurt in the Kraken's season opener, a 6-1 win at the Calgary Flames on Oct. 1. The team initially described it as an upper-body injury. It has now been diagnosed as an anterior mediastinum hematoma with vascular pseudo aneurysm.
The Kraken said in a statement that Melanson will continue to be evaluated and monitored closely by the medical staff in Seattle through the healing process, with a "gradual progression to return to hockey." No timeline was given.
Coach Lane Lambert said on Oct. 11 that Melanson was recovering and that the medical team had acted promptly.
Melanson played 9:31 against the Flames and had one shot on goal. The 23-year-old had five points (two goals, three assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 36 games for Seattle last season. The Kraken selected him in the fifth round (No. 131) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
