Kings to Retire Kopitar's No. 11, Unveil Statue in Feb. 2027
Los Angeles will honor its all-time leading scorer on Feb. 24, 2027, before a game against Montreal.
The Los Angeles Kings will retire Anze Kopitar's No. 11 jersey and unveil a bronze statue in his honor on Feb. 24, 2027, at Crypto.com Arena before their game against the Montreal Canadiens, the team announced on Aug. 7.
Kopitar, who retired following the 2025-26 season after 20 years with the Kings, will become the eighth player in franchise history to have his number retired. He joins Rogie Vachon (30), Marcel Dionne (16), Dave Taylor (18), Wayne Gretzky (99), Luc Robitaille (20), Rob Blake (4), and Dustin Brown (23).
The statue, created by sculptors Julie Rotblatt Amrany and Omri Amrany, will be installed in Star Plaza outside the arena, according to the team. Kopitar will become the fourth Kings player honored with a statue, joining Gretzky, Robitaille, and Brown.
Kopitar, 38, finished his career as the franchise leader in games played (1,521), assists (864), and points (1,316). He served as captain since 2016 and helped lead Los Angeles to Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014. He won the Selke Trophy in 2016 and 2018, the Lady Byng Trophy three times (2016, 2023, 2025), and the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2021-22.
"To have my number retired and a statue unveiled by the LA Kings is an incredible honor, and one that is difficult to put into words," Kopitar said in the team's announcement.
Kopitar spent his entire 20-season NHL career with Los Angeles after the Kings selected him 11th overall in the 2005 NHL Draft.
