Kings Announce Opening of LA Kings Ice Reseda, New Home for California Heat
The Kings, ASEC and Councilmember Bob Blumenfield cut the ribbon Friday on a 26,800-square-foot rink in the San Fernando Valley.
LA Kings Ice Reseda opened Friday in the San Fernando Valley, with a 1:30 p.m. PDT ribbon-cutting at 18212 Sherman Way. The California Heat, a long-running Valley youth hockey program, will play out of the rink permanently.
The Kings and American Sports Entertainment Company (ASEC) teamed up with Councilmember Bob Blumenfield and the City of Los Angeles on the project. Work on the 26,800-square-foot building started in July 2022, under Reseda Rising, Blumenfield's push to bring more than $100 million of investment to the neighbourhood.
Inside is an 85-by-200-foot NHL-size sheet, with seating, skate rentals, a pro shop, concessions and offices. Next to it sits a roller area of roughly 60 by 120 feet, served by its own 1,200-square-foot building.
The rink gives the Kings-ASEC partnership seven permanent public facilities, joining LA Kings Ice Burbank, LA Kings Iceland Paramount, LA Kings Ice PV, The Cube Ice and Entertainment Center in Valencia, LA Kings Ice Mammoth Lakes and the Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo.
Blumenfield said the project grew from "one line in a local park bond measure in the 1990s about an ice rink" and took "$30 million" to piece together. He called it "the city's only municipally owned ice rink."
"This rink is for everyone in our community," Kings president Luc Robitaille said. "Whether you are a first-time skater or a player for the California Heat."
The Heat, a nonprofit with more than 200 players and families, started in 1992 as the West Valley Wolves and took its current name in 2012.
Beyond the Heat's schedule, the building will offer public skating, learn-to-skate lessons and the Little Kings learn-to-play program.
