Gostisbehere's OT power-play goal gives Hurricanes first win

Shayne Gostisbehere buried a one-timer in overtime as Carolina beat Philadelphia 3-2 and left the Flyers winless through three games.

Shayne Gostisbehere gave the Carolina Hurricanes their first victory of the season with a power-play goal at 2:51 of overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Oct. 3. Carolina won 3-2 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Jackson Blake supplied the pass for Gostisbehere's one-timer in front of the net. Sebastian Aho contributed to all three Carolina goals, scoring twice and adding an assist. Andrei Svechnikov finished with two assists.

Aho opened the scoring just 10 seconds after the opening faceoff. Philadelphia responded through Owen Tippett at 8:03 of the first period and went ahead when Matvei Michkov scored at 7:20 of the second.

Aho's second goal, on a power play at 4:59 of the third period, brought Carolina level and set up overtime.

Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 16 shots for the Hurricanes in his first game since Dec. 20. At the other end, Joseph Woll made 37 saves. Carolina improved to 1-1-1, while Philadelphia remained without a win at 0-1-2.

Flyers defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen departed with an undisclosed injury after one shift in the third period.
