Jacob Fowler established a Montreal Canadiens rookie record for saves in a shutout with 46 in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory at St. Louis. The NHL’s record comparison covers games since 1955-56, when shots on goal became an official statistic.

The previous mark was 41, reached by Tony Esposito on Dec. 21, 1968, and Cayden Primeau on March 12, 2024. Fowler moved past them with his 42nd save at 17:45 of the third period, stopping a snap shot by Connor McMichael.

St. Louis forced Fowler to make 24 saves in the final period alone. The performance extended his road winning streak to seven games dating to last season, according to NHL.com.
