Demko improving but still without return date, Malhotra says
The Canucks goalie took time off the ice last week as he continues recovering from January hip surgery.
Thatcher Demko is making progress in his recovery from hip surgery, but the Vancouver Canucks still have no date for his return, coach Manny Malhotra said Monday, Oct. 19.
Malhotra said Vancouver had reduced the goaltender’s skating over the past week and that Demko took a couple of days off the ice over the weekend. Demko watched Monday’s practice from the bench.
Asked whether there was concern that Demko could miss the entire 2026-27 season, Malhotra replied, “To my knowledge, no.” He said the recovery remained slow and the team was avoiding any rush.
Demko underwent hip surgery in January. He has yet to play this season.
