Canadiens Acquire Winger Pastujov From Ducks for Farrell

The Montreal Canadiens acquired winger Sasha Pastujov from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Sean Farrell on July 27. Both players were restricted free agents in need of new contracts at the time of the trade.

Pastujov, 23, was selected by the Ducks in the third round of the 2021 draft, 66th overall. He has yet to make his NHL debut, posting 21 goals and 57 points in 71 games with the AHL's San Diego Gulls last season.

Farrell, 24, made his NHL debut with the Canadiens in 2022-23, recording one goal in six games to close the season. A fourth-round pick in the 2020 draft, 124th overall, Farrell had 17 goals and 53 points in 72 games with the Laval Rocket last season.

The deal represents a swap of prospects who have spent most of their professional careers in the AHL. Pastujov brings offensive production from the wing, while Farrell departs after brief NHL exposure with Montreal.

Anaheim moved quickly to lock up its return, signing Farrell to a one-year, two-way contract on July 28 that pays $850,000 at the NHL level and $155,000 in the AHL. Pastujov has not yet signed with Montreal.
