Bruins, Oilers Set for 2027 NHL Global Series Games in Germany

The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers will each play two regular-season games in Germany during the 2027-28 season, the NHL and NHLPA announced Thursday.

The Bruins will play their two games in Munich at SAP Garden, the home city of Boston forward JJ Peterka. The Oilers will play their two games in Cologne at Lanxess Arena, the hometown of Edmonton alternate captain Leon Draisaitl. Opponents and exact dates have not been set and will be announced later.

It will be the first time either Munich or Cologne has hosted an NHL regular-season game. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly called the games "an important step in our commitment to grow the game in Germany," saying the goal is to deepen engagement with fans and partners while expanding the sport's reach across the country.

NHLPA executive director Marty Walsh said, "The NHL Global Series games in 2027 bring two of the NHL's best players in Leon Draisaitl and JJ Peterka back to play in front of their hometown fans."

The Munich and Cologne games will be the fourth through seventh regular-season games ever played in Germany. The first came on October 8, 2011, when the Buffalo Sabres beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 in Berlin. Before the 2027 games, the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators are set to play the 2026 NHL Global Series Germany in Dusseldorf on December 18 and 20 of this year.

The NHL and NHLPA have committed to bringing regular-season games to Germany for at least the next three seasons as part of a broader growth strategy that includes grassroots hockey programs and fan engagement initiatives in the country.
