Blues Name Robert Thomas Franchise's 25th Captain
St. Louis hands the 'C' to Thomas after Brayden Schenn's trade deadline departure, with four teammates named alternates.
The St. Louis Blues named Robert Thomas the 25th captain in franchise history on Wednesday, ending the vacancy left when Brayden Schenn was traded to the New York Islanders at last season's trade deadline.
Thomas, 27, takes over after previously serving as an assistant captain. The Aurora, Ontario native was St. Louis's first-round pick, 20th overall, in the 2017 draft, and has spent his entire career with the organization. In 530 regular-season games he has scored 132 goals and 328 assists for 460 points, and he was part of the Blues' 2019 Stanley Cup championship team, appearing in 21 playoff games as a rookie that spring.
Last season Thomas put up 25 goals and 39 assists in 64 games, a point-per-game pace, and his career highs remain the 26 goals and 86 points he posted in 2023-24. His name surfaced in trade talks with the Buffalo Sabres ahead of last season's deadline, but the sides never reached a deal, and Thomas said afterward that he had made it known since signing his contract that he wanted to win again in St. Louis and be a leader there.
Alongside Thomas, the Blues named Colton Parayko, Philip Broberg, Jake Neighbours and Dylan Holloway as assistant captains for 2026-27. Parayko, Broberg and Neighbours have worn an 'A' before; Holloway is new to the leadership group.
Thomas will wear the 'C' for the first time in the regular season when the Blues open their campaign on October 2 against the Dallas Stars.
