Vaughn's VX1 Pro and ION Pro leg pads share a firm upper structure, but their outside-roll layouts differ. The [VX1 Pro](https://vaughnhockey.com/product/vpg-vx1-pro-leg-pad/) combines three flat knee rolls with a single break in the outer roll. The [ION Pro](https://vaughnhockey.com/product/vpg-ion-pro-select-leg-pad/) has a solid outside roll without a knee break.

That is a concrete detail to compare when trying the pads on, alongside the knee landing and lower scoop. Vaughn lists a firm inner core and high-density side rails for the VX1 Pro. Its knee landing connects to the core, while an easy-flex scoop gives the lower section a different construction from the firm upper portion.

The ION Pro listing specifies increased upper-core stiffness, a flexible lower scoop and an inner knee block integrated into the internal core. An open knee cradle and wide leg cradle are also part of its layout. Vaughn describes the front core surface as designed for active rebounds; that is a manufacturer claim rather than a measured rebound-speed result.

Size choice separates the stock ranges, too. Vaughn lists the VX1 Pro from 32+2 through 36+2, while the ION Pro page lists 32+2 through 35+2. The extra VX1 size is a listed option, not a reason to size up without checking knee placement.

These are two Pro-level listings. Neither set of specifications establishes which pad will feel better to a particular goalie; the roll design, knee position and available length are the useful starting points for a fitting.
