New Tariffs Could Push Bauer Supreme Fuse Skates Past $600

The White House announced 30% tariffs on Canadian hockey equipment Monday, and players are bracing for sticker shock on skates like the new Bauer Supreme Fuse, even though the policy may miss its mark.

The Fuse is Bauer's 2026 flagship skate in the Supreme line, built for power skaters who play in overdrive. It replaces the Supreme Shadow and anchors a full system that includes leg pads, chest protector, glove, blocker, and a goalie stick reviewed this month by ingoalmag.com. The senior skate runs £238 in the UK, according to willies.co.uk, though U.S. pricing has not been published. Intermediate and junior models are also available.

The skate uses a 12k CURV composite quarter for lightweight stiffness, AMP Flex 3.0 facing that stores energy as you bend your knee, and a Powercoil tongue that snaps back for a more responsive stride. A forged carbon outsole and Fuse X toe cap improve energy transfer. The boot is thermoformable, and the Powerfly holder accepts either Fly-X steel (North America) or Fly-TI runners with a titanium coating for better bite and edgework, per sourceforsports.ca.

The tariff targets hockey sticks prominently, but most sticks used by pros and youth players today come from supply chains centered in China, not Canada, sportsbusinessjournal.com reported. Rouston Hockey, Canada's last major stick factory, makes 400,000 wooden sticks a year, a technology the NHL abandoned. The tariff may spare the composite sticks players actually buy while hitting small Canadian shops.

Whether Bauer skates, which are not manufactured exclusively in Canada, will see the full 30% increase remains unclear. Players shopping for the Fuse this summer face uncertainty on final cost.
