Bauer Supreme Shadow: The Mach Gets a Stiffer Successor
Bauer's new flagship Supreme skate pairs a 40 percent stiffer outsole with a rethought holder that stays rigid for power and flexes for agility.
If you skate on power and live for the first three strides, the Bauer Supreme Shadow is the flagship you have been waiting for. It succeeds the Supreme Mach at the top of Bauer's Supreme line, and Bauer bills it as its most innovative Supreme skate. The pitch is simple: more energy into the ice, faster reaction out of it.
The headline change is underfoot. The Carbon CONNECT outsole is 40 percent stiffer than the one on the Supreme Mach, per Bauer. A stiffer platform means less energy lost to flex on push-off, so more of every stride goes into acceleration and push-off power. That is the whole point of a Supreme skate, and it is the biggest structural jump the line has made in a while.
The other real story is the new PowerFly holder, which Bauer calls a first of its kind. A stiff front post maximizes energy transfer on each stride, while a flexible back post speeds up side to side movement. The idea is a holder that stays rigid where you want power and gives where you want agility, rather than being uniformly stiff.
Around those two pieces, the build reads like a proper flagship. The boot uses a 12K Carbon CURV composite with thermoformable properties, a redesigned ERGO CONNECT toe cap for a stiffer, more responsive forefoot, an AMP FLEX facing, a POWERCOIL tongue with an injected insert for energy recoil, and a dual layer LOCK-FIT PRO liner.
Who is it for? Power skaters who want the stiffest, most explosive boot Bauer makes and are willing to break in a genuine top tier carbon shell. If you preferred a softer, more agile feel, the extra stiffness here may be more skate than you need.
On price, Bauer lists the senior Supreme Shadow at a regular 989.99 US dollars, though at the time of writing it was discounted to 742.49 on Bauer's own site, with steel excluded from the discount. Intermediate and MyBauer custom versions are also offered. It is available now through Bauer and authorized retailers. Bauer did not publish a boot weight, so we are leaving that number out until there is a verified figure.
