Travis Green Calls Brady Tkachuk's Trade Request 'Disappointing'

Travis Green called Brady Tkachuk's trade request "disappointing" as the Ottawa Senators prepared to open training camp Wednesday.

Green said coaches are disappointed whenever a player has to be moved, particularly when that player is a captain with whom they have built a relationship. This will be Ottawa's first season since 2018 without Tkachuk and Green's first behind the Senators bench without him among the team's top forwards.

Tkachuk requested a trade after Ottawa was swept by Carolina in the first round of the playoffs, the Senators' second consecutive first-round exit. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Tkachuk would not commit to a long-term future in Ottawa and submitted a four-team list that included Carolina, Florida, Minnesota and Vegas.

Florida acquired Tkachuk for the Nos. 9 and 25 picks in the 2026 NHL Draft, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 first-round pick. The trade united the 27-year-old forward with his brother Matthew in Florida.

Green said he and Tkachuk had a "really good" conversation after the trade but declined to share the details.

"We had a good relationship, and I enjoyed coaching him and I think he enjoyed playing under me," Green said. "But things happen in this game and in this business."
