Seth Jones ended October with 18 points, establishing a Florida Panthers record for a defenceman in any month. He reached the mark with a goal and two assists in Friday’s 5-2 home victory over Winnipeg.

The production came after a quiet opening to the season. Jones had one assist in his first five games, then collected 17 points across nine games beginning Oct. 12. Eleven of his October points came on the power play, according to the Panthers.

Jones said he measures his performance through his decisions and puck movement rather than his scoring totals. Coach Paul Maurice praised his confidence and offensive contribution from the blue line.

He is also carrying a substantial workload: his average of 24:52 per game leads Florida. The Panthers have outscored opponents 10-6 during his 216:40 at 5-on-5, the club reported.

Florida next hosts Detroit on Monday, seeking a fourth consecutive victory.
