Torrent sign second-round pick Sydney Morrow to two-year deal

The Minnesota defender, picked 14th overall in June, is the second member of Seattle's 2026 draft class to sign.

The Seattle Torrent have signed defender Sydney Morrow to a two-year PWHL Standard Player Agreement through the 2027-28 season, the club announced Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Morrow was the 14th overall pick in the 2026 PWHL Draft, taken in the second round on June 17. She was the second of six players Seattle chose and is the second from that class to sign. Forward Abbey Murphy, the team's second overall pick, signed a two-year contract in September.

Morrow played her junior and senior seasons at the University of Minnesota. She started at Ohio State in 2022-23 and spent her sophomore year at Colgate. In her final season with the Gophers she was a CCM/AHCA Second Team All-American and an All-WCHA Second Team selection, and a top-three finalist for WCHA Defender of the Year.

Her 2025-26 numbers: 38 points, third among NCAA defenders, and 30 assists, second. Her plus-33 rating and 57 blocked shots both ranked second on her team. She had 10 multi-point games and added five assists in the first round of the 2026 WCHA Playoffs.

Internationally, Morrow played for Team USA at the 2024 IIHF Women's World Championship and won silver at the 2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship. She is also slated to attend a U.S. camp Oct. 23 to 30 in Plymouth, Mich.

The signing puts Seattle at 18 players under contract among the 28 invited to next month's training camp. Morrow is one of six signed defenders, joining Emily Brown, Lyndie Lobdell, Noemi Neubauerová, Aneta Tejralová and Anna Wilgren.

The Torrent's home opener is scheduled for Dec. 20 at Climate Pledge Arena.
