Tanner Jeannot named Bruins alternate captain
Boston confirms Jeannot’s first NHL leadership letter after the Sept. 29 home opener.
Tanner Jeannot has become an alternate captain for the Boston Bruins, wearing a letter for the first time in his NHL career during their Sept. 29 home opener. Boston beat the New York Rangers 3-0 at TD Garden.
The Bruins confirmed Jeannot's new role Thursday in a club report about their leadership group. The 29-year-old joins captain David Pastrnak, who was appointed on Sept. 27. Jeannot played on Boston's fourth line alongside Mark Kastelic and Sean Kuraly in the opener.
Jeannot said wearing the letter for an Original Six club was "just a dream come true". His father, Pat, a longtime Bruins fan, attended the game.
Jeannot signed a five-year contract with Boston in July 2025. He finished his first season there with six goals and 16 assists in 77 games, his second-highest NHL point total. He also led the Bruins with 239 hits.
Coach Marco Sturm said Jeannot had earned the leadership role through his influence on teammates. Sturm knew him from their time in the Los Angeles Kings organization during 2024-25, when Sturm coached the AHL's Ontario Reign.
Boston visits Winnipeg on Oct. 2 and Minnesota on Oct. 3.
