Reports: Devils in advanced talks for Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck

ESPN, TSN and Sportsnet report progress in discussions involving New Jersey; neither club has announced a trade.

The New Jersey Devils have emerged as a possible destination for Connor Hellebuyck, with ESPN reporting Friday that talks with the Winnipeg Jets had reached an advanced stage. No trade has been announced.

ESPN, citing unnamed sources, said negotiations accelerated Thursday night after Winnipeg had been dissatisfied with earlier offers. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman also reported Friday that the Jets were working on a deal with New Jersey.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that the clubs were moving closer to an agreement but still had details to resolve. Earlier Friday, TSN’s Darren Dreger said a trade could happen that day. Those reports describe ongoing discussions rather than a completed transaction.

The talks come as Hellebuyck’s suspension for missing training camp reaches its scheduled end Friday. He requested a trade during the summer. Winnipeg is preparing to host the Heritage Classic this weekend.
