PWHL requires cut-resistant neck protection for 2026-27

The league also changes how it handles high sticks on the puck and will test penalty shots for minor penalties in preseason overtime.

PWHL

PWHL players will have to wear cut-resistant neck protection in every game this season, including during warm-ups. The league announced the requirement Thursday as part of its 2026-27 rulebook changes.

Players will be allowed to bat the puck above shoulder height without a stoppage for high-sticking the puck. The league also clarified which body checks are allowed.

In preseason scrimmages, the league will test an overtime rule that gives a team the option of taking a penalty shot when its opponent is assessed a minor penalty.

The PWHL has named 21 referees and 21 linespersons for the season. The officiating roster drops from 59 to 42 so each official can work more games. Training camps open Nov. 18, and the regular season starts Dec. 5.
