Point and Hedman respond to reports of Kucherov trade request
Tampa Bay players discussed their teammate’s future after Saturday’s shootout loss in Nashville.
Brayden Point said his friendship with Nikita Kucherov and his expectations of his linemate have not changed after reports that Kucherov wants a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Speaking after Saturday’s game in Nashville, Point described Kucherov’s contract decisions as personal business and said he expects him to keep competing, according to NHL.com.
Captain Victor Hedman said the players had known about the situation before the reports became public. He described Friday as a difficult day. Defenceman John Carlson said the news had surprised him, but that his attention on the ice remained on his own responsibilities.
Kucherov did not address reporters after recording three assists in Tampa Bay’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Predators, NHL.com reported.
Sportsnet reported Friday that Kucherov had told the Lightning he would not re-sign and wanted to be traded. General manager Julien BriseBois responded that the team had no intention of trading him. The Associated Press also reported the request, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.
