P.K. Subban to star in and produce animated Screech Owls series
The NHL is a partner in the 26-episode hockey mystery series, scheduled to debut on CBC in fall 2027.
P.K. Subban will star in and executive produce a new animated adaptation of Screech Owls, the NHL announced on Oct. 6. Shaftesbury and Sphere Animation are producing the series in partnership with the NHL and Boat Rocker Studios.
The production consists of 26 episodes, each 11 minutes long, and is underway in Toronto. Its English-language debut is scheduled for fall 2027 on CBC, followed by a French-language launch on Radio-Canada and TFO in winter 2028.
Subban plays Coach P.K., who leads a fictional hockey team through mystery adventures. The adaptation draws on Roy MacGregor’s books and the live-action series from 2001. PWHL player Sarah Nurse will appear as herself.
The NHL holds exclusive distribution rights in the United States and the Nordics. Boat Rocker Studios holds the rights elsewhere outside Canada.
