The Edmonton Oilers will mark the 150th anniversary of Treaty Six at their Indigenous Celebration game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, Oct. 22. The game at Rogers Place begins at 7 p.m. local time, the club announced.

A ceremony before the game will honour Indigenous Elders and youth from Northern Alberta. Guests include International Chief Wilton Littlechild of Ermineskin Cree Nation and Inuit Elder Edna Elias, along with First Nations and Métis leaders.

Métis dancers and fiddlers from the eight land-based Métis Settlements will perform on the concourse. Jakobi Omeasoo of Samson Cree Nation will provide DJ sets in the first two intermissions.

The evening will also feature the Turtle Island logo created by Bigstone Cree Nation artist Lance Cardinal. Proceeds from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation’s 50/50 raffle will support Spirit North, which provides sport and play opportunities for Indigenous youth.
