Connor McDavid reached 20 assists in his ninth appearance of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Sportsnet Stats identified the total as an NHL record for the opening nine games of a season.

The Edmonton captain set up three goals against Minnesota, including Evan Bouchard's overtime winner in a 4-3 victory at Rogers Place. McDavid finished the night with six goals and 26 points for the season.

His first two assists came on Leon Draisaitl's power-play goals, one late in the first period and the other early in the second. The pass to Bouchard supplied his third assist of the game.

McDavid has produced at least one point in each of Edmonton's nine games. The Oilers are 7-1-1 following the win.
