NHL partners with Düsseldorf rink for Global Series fan events
Kö on Ice will host fan activities before Ottawa and Chicago play in Germany in December.
The NHL announced a sponsorship agreement with Düsseldorf’s Kö on Ice on Wednesday, adding the seasonal rink to its fan activities ahead of December’s Global Series games.
The attraction on Königsallee will operate from Nov. 6 to Jan. 10. Ottawa and Chicago are scheduled to meet at PSD Bank Dome on Dec. 18 and 20.
The league also announced Stanley Cup appearances during the week of the games. Kö on Ice will host a live recording of the German NHL podcast Schlagschuss that week.
The league’s plans for the rink include photo experiences and a five-metre Christmas tree assembled from 264 used hockey sticks, with an illuminated NHL logo at the top. NHL branding will appear on the boards and ice resurfacing machine.
John Lewicki, the NHL’s senior vice-president of international partnerships, said in the announcement that the rink would be a central part of the league’s Düsseldorf fan programme, alongside activities in the city centre and at the arena.
