Washington Capitals forward Andrew Cristall has been fined $2,250.86, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for cross-checking Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Hunter McDonald, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Tuesday.
The incident occurred midway through the second period of Washington's 5-2 preseason win Monday at Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. McDonald delivered a hard hit on Capitals forward Ryan Leonard along the boards, and Cristall retaliated with a high cross-check on McDonald.
Cristall received a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct. McDonald remained in the game.
Cristall, 21, was selected 40th overall by Washington in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft and has not appeared in a regular-season NHL game. He recorded 20 goals and 40 assists in 70 games for the AHL's Hershey Bears last season.
