Newhook line earns praise from St. Louis after Canadiens loss
Montreal tried Josh Anderson, Alex Newhook and Chris Kreider together in the 5-2 defeat to Nashville.
Alex Newhook, Josh Anderson and Chris Kreider drew praise from Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis after their first game together as a line Thursday.
Montreal lost 5-2 to Nashville, but St. Louis said the group gave the Predators little space with the puck and recovered possession through its forecheck, according to Sportsnet. Anderson described the approach as a simple north-south game.
Sportsnet reported that the line generated 13 shot attempts while conceding three at five-on-five. Newhook scored in the second period; Kreider's early goal was overturned following an offside challenge.
The new combination came with Oliver Kapanen and Ivan Demidov sidelined. It gives St. Louis another line to assess as Montreal tries to recover from three straight losses.
