Auston Matthews received the NHL’s first-star award on Monday, Oct. 12, with Jake Oettinger and Alexis Lafrenière taking the other two places for the week ending Oct. 11.

Matthews produced three goals and six assists across three appearances for Toronto. Four-point games against Nashville and Colorado helped the Maple Leafs earn two wins and a shootout-loss point during the week.

His goal in overtime completed Toronto’s 5-4 comeback against the Predators on Oct. 6. He added an assist against Vegas on Oct. 8, then scored twice and assisted on two goals in the Oct. 10 win over the Avalanche.

Oettinger earned second-star honours after conceding only one goal on 60 shots over three starts for Dallas. His 59 saves gave him a .983 save percentage for the week. He shut out San Jose and Buffalo before Dallas lost to Pittsburgh in a shootout.

Lafrenière was the third selection, scoring a league-leading five goals and adding two assists in three games for the Rangers. He opened with a hat trick against the Islanders, scored against Washington and finished with a goal and an assist against Vancouver. New York won twice during the week.
