Brad Marchand is week-to-week with a leg injury and is expected to return this season, Sportsnet reported, citing sources. The Florida Panthers forward was hurt during Tuesday’s 2-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena.
With 53 seconds remaining in the second period, Marchand took a high stick from Kings defenceman Brandt Clarke as he approached the net and collided awkwardly with the right goalpost. Clarke received a four-minute high-sticking penalty at 19:07.
Marchand remained on the ice holding his left knee while a trainer attended to him. Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola then assisted him off the ice, according to NHL.com. Coach Paul Maurice did not have an update immediately after the game.
Matthew Tkachuk's winner followed a pass from Sam Bennett as Florida attacked off the rush. Seth Jones had drawn the Panthers level at 3:49 of the second period after Alex Laferriere gave Los Angeles the lead at 19:00 of the first.
Jacob Markstrom made 19 saves on 20 shots for Florida, which finished its four-game season-opening road trip at 2-0-2. Darcy Kuemper stopped 26 of 28 shots as the Kings fell to 0-2-1 in their home opener.
It was Marchand's second appearance of the season. He had missed Florida's first two games while recovering from offseason surgery, then returned against Anaheim on Sunday.
