Ilya Mikheyev got his first goal as a Lightning player at the right time. His wraparound at 17:00 of the third period made it 3-1 and put Tampa Bay's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers out of reach on Monday at Benchmark International Arena.

Mikheyev took a pass from Pontus Holmberg for the goal. Both players finished with a goal and an assist. Mikheyev signed a four-year, $15.4 million contract ($3.85 million average annual value) as a free agent on July 1.

Brayden Point opened the scoring at 16:05 of the first period, redirecting a John Carlson shot from below the hash marks. Holmberg made it 2-0 just 17 seconds into the second with a shot from the right circle on the rush that beat Dan Vladar high on the glove side. Brandon Hagel also scored, and Nikita Kucherov had two assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 13 saves.

Tyson Foerster cut it to 2-1 at 7:22 of the second when his shot deflected off Charle-Edouard D'Astous' stick and past Vasilevskiy. Vladar made 32 saves in the loss.

The Lightning (2-1-0) have won two straight after a 5-1 loss to the New York Rangers in their season opener. The Flyers (0-2-2) have opened a season with four straight losses for the first time since 2014.
