Lightning extend Syracuse Crunch affiliation through 2030
Tampa Bay's AHL partnership with the Crunch will continue for four more seasons.
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Syracuse Crunch announced a four-year affiliation extension on July 15, keeping their AHL partnership intact through the 2029-30 season.
The deal extends a relationship that began in 2012 and has become one of the most stable in minor league hockey. According to nhl.com, the two teams hold the longest active streak in which both clubs have qualified for the playoffs, at eight consecutive seasons.
Since the affiliation started, 104 players have suited up for both organizations. The Crunch posted a 520-331-81-58 record over the first 14 years of the partnership and reached the Calder Cup Finals twice, in 2013 and 2017. Syracuse has made the postseason in 10 of the 12 seasons that playoffs were held while partnered with Tampa Bay.
"Our partnership with the Crunch has proven incredibly valuable, and we're thrilled to extend our affiliation with them today," Lightning vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois said in a statement reported by nhl.com. "Howard Dolgon and everyone in the organization have created a tremendous culture that benefits our players and supports their development at every level."
The Crunch, owned by Dolgon and operating independently since 1994, will begin their 33rd season in 2026-27. Tampa Bay is the fourth NHL affiliate in franchise history, following Vancouver, Columbus, and Anaheim. Syracuse plays home games at Upstate Medical University Arena at Onondaga County War Memorial, where they have been since their inaugural season.
