Johansson earns first career assist in Senators debut
The Ottawa goalie helped set up Michael Amadio’s empty-net goal in Saturday’s 7-4 win over the Rangers.
Jonas Johansson earned his first career assist while making his Ottawa Senators debut in Saturday’s 7-4 home victory over the New York Rangers.
Late in the third period, Johansson stopped a dump-in from Mika Zibanejad and left the puck for Jake Sanderson. Sanderson’s attempt at the empty net went wide, but Michael Amadio reached the puck and scored. Johansson received an assist on the play.
Coach Travis Green praised Johansson’s work outside his crease, saying his ability to stop pucks along the boards helped Ottawa against the Rangers’ forecheck. Sanderson also credited the goalie’s puck handling and confidence.
Johansson said he did not collect the puck from Amadio’s goal, but he received the team’s win puck after his first appearance for Ottawa.
