Jets Suspend Connor Hellebuyck After He Fails to Report

The Winnipeg Jets suspended Connor Hellebuyck on Wednesday after he failed to report for training camp, the team announced.

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is scheduled to address the media at 10:30 a.m. ET Thursday. Winnipeg's camp opens Thursday with 51 players invited.

Hellebuyck publicly confirmed Aug. 27 that he had requested a trade several months earlier. "I have tried to handle the situation quietly and respectfully while giving the organization time to explore its options," he said in a statement released by his agent, Ray Petkau.

The 33-year-old goaltender is entering the third season of a seven-year, $59.5 million contract that carries an $8.5 million average annual value. The extension began in 2024-25 and runs through 2030-31.

Hellebuyck helped Winnipeg finish with the NHL's best record in 2024-25 and won the Hart Trophy and his third Vezina Trophy. Last season he went 23-23-11 in 57 games with a 2.86 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage.

He also helped the United States win gold at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, making 41 saves in a 2-1 victory over Canada in the gold-medal game.

Hellebuyck has spent his entire NHL career with Winnipeg. In 625 games, he has a 345-208-55 record, 2.58 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and 45 shutouts.
